Matteo Pugliese

Matteo Pugliese is an Italian sculptor. He earned his degree in modern literature from the University of Milan with a thesis in art criticism. His art has been shown in various exhibitions and art fairs all around Europe and Asia.
When I first saw Pugliese's work I thought it was interesting in the first glance. After looking at more of his work I found that there was much more to his sculptures in terms of the detail. I think that is what I found most interesting about it is that first glance drew me in and the close up is what kept me looking at it.

Since the pieces are all fairly similar I figured I would just discuss them as one. In all of them I feel like there is a narrative being told and that each of the figures is just a passing moment and that it will disappear as soon as I look away. I feel that way because of the way the bodies are appearing to just come out of the wall or floor in which they are placed. It seems like they are about to sink back into the surface or that they just came out of the wall to tell you something and will soon sink back into it. I also like that each of the figures has a texture to it and that they aren't just a regularly sculpted smooth figure. They almost look distressed and old as if there weren't part of the contemporary art worl.
