Marc Quinn

Marc Quinn is an artist working in a large variety of media including sculpture, installation, painting, and photography. His work is often controversial in his use of materials and his depictions. He has used his own frozen blood in a life size sculpture of his head, and often depicts celebrities in compromising positions.

I think that Quinn's work is very interesting in the fact that it's hard to look away from. The sculptures that I've seen are just so awkwardly position, but not awkward in a way that it unintentional. The figure usually has a deformed figure or is in a position that seems impossible.

This is the piece that is made out of his own frozen blood. I find it very odd that he used his blood to make this. I'm not sure if I believe that he did, but I don't really see any reason to not believe it. He often mixes art and science in order to understand the nature of the body, which I suppose would explain why he would have made this. All I see when I look at this is decapitation, I think that the dripping, scattered blood only adds to that.

This is a sculpture of Kate Moss doing yoga poses, very impossible yoga poses. I like that they are all white, rather that realistic,  I think put them in naturalistic colors would have made them very uncomfortable to look at. I think they are awkward enough in their poses that I feel like the white is satisfying to the eye.
